Allison Smith just created a hysterical parody music on hold Parody.  Whatever you were doing, stop, and dial this number to listen to it: 360-519-5689. 2 minutes.

I just gave her a few ideas, but she took it and ran with it--she chose the audio and did the mix-down and everything.  Really funny!!

Allison Smith just created a hysterical parody music on hold Parody.  Whatever you were doing, stop, and dial this number to listen to it: 360-519-5689. 2 minutes.

indeed, you would want to differentiate between jitter and loss, as well
as transcoding issues that may be present. Even that wont really tell
you what part of the network, but it can tell you what to look for to
try to figure it out.

Hello Kris, what's up?

I was reading your description for Recqual, and there is one thing I don't
get:

- We perform the test, which consists in playing a sound file over the
network via asterisk, and then comparing the difference in quality.
- How is it going to tell me what in my network is causing the loss of
quality?

Best regards

I'd like to add that I am recruiting devs and other experts to
participate in this call. John Todd will be joining me along with
several others (hopefully) to provide real world input on overall call
quality topics, such as:

- RTCP/RTCP XR
- QoS
- Etc, etc

It's shaping up (no pun intended) to be a very interesting call!

[asterisk-biz] Commax Video Intercom

Hi

Has anyone tried the Commax Video home intercom product with Asterisk before? It works well with the Axon software but the video part does not work on asterisk. The SIP works though! I have tested the Asterisk version 1.4.X with Video mpeg4 codec as pass-though with Ekiga with no problems but when I try the commax DRC-500S and the CDP-1020H, I can't get the video through.

Cheers,
Si

Re: [asterisk-biz] New Cisco SPA-525G Desktop IP Phone Coming Soon w/ BlueTooth, WiFi and More

Cory,

I see you mention "dual onboard ethernet ports". Does this mean the
usual built-in ethernet switch so that you can piggy-back a PC or
another SIP phone such as a 7960? If so, can the SPA-525G bridge 802.11
to the piggy-backed wired ethernet? As in:

Internet <-> Router with 802.11 <-Wifi-> SPA-525G <-Ethernet-> PC

If it can it becomes very attractive for those of us who travel
frequently and who end up carting a SIP phone around.

Re: [asterisk-biz] New Cisco SPA-525G Desktop IP Phone Coming Soonw/ BlueTooth, WiFi and More

John - not sure about the SIP/XML piece, I'll need to dig a bit on that. The MP3 player function is not for everyone, but cool nonetheless. The phone picks up any media in the root directory of the flash device, including MP3's and photos (Not sure if it can handle video clips?) Would be cool if you could conference in the audio/MP3 into a call and share that with someone, or easily share a previously recorded call, saved on the phone, with another party at a later date. I think they have more features planned for the USB interface on the phone, such as local call recording to flash media. What about one touch podcast syndication of recorded calls?

I'd love to see a simple XML integration on a handset to display photostream from Flickr. I'm sure lots of service providers would be interested in serving "actionable" advertisements to SIP endpoints...wonder if you could create a context-sensitive, transient softbutton on the phone that would allow a user to act on an advertisement and trigger a call connect?

This is an interesting product if for no other reason other than it is a Cisco endpoint that ships natively with SIP. It will also be interesting to see which handset manufacturer can be first to market with some meaningful XML applications that can drive user adoption.

I posted a comment on the blog, but it does occur to me that this is a
better forum for a back-and-forth discussion than perhaps the Comments
section on that page. The phone looks very nice, and I think that
this kind of feature set will sell well - good to see some innovation
from Cisco phones! The Bluetooth capability is really nice. It would
be amazingly far-sighted of them to have Bluetooth association create
SIP NOTIFY events - would that be the enabler for all sorts of
interesting features or what? When you (or at least your Bluetooth
headset) sit down at your desk, the phone could send a NOTIFY and
calls start flowing to your desk. (or "REGISTER" - not sure which
would be more appropriate.) When you move away, the SIP server is
NOTIFYed that you are away, and routes calls to your cell phone.
(Yes, I know, I'll stop my crazy talk about "features" and
"innovation" - it just gives developers headaches.) This is of course
all stuff that Asterisk can or could do easily as the core, and allow
those components to be accessed quickly by the huge development
community. But of course that only means hardware revenue for Cisco,
and no Call Manager revenue. The Open Source barbarians might storm
the gates in San Jose with swords made out of Linksys phones. But I
don't particularly care about the internal contentions in CSCOs
product group - I'm only interested in what features are available on
equipment I (we) can use.

I'll throw a few more bones of contention out to see if you or someone
else on the list know better than I some of the answers:

No G.722 of any sort? Surprising.

Also: I've been remiss in keeping up with these for a while. Can XML
URLs be pushed into the phone on an INVITE yet or is that still a
"complex feature" only available on the proprietary protocols? In
other words: do a screen pop on the phone when a call comes in with
some arbitrary web-based data displayed?

I've tried beating that idea into the heads of the Sipura/Linksys/
Cisco people for literally 7 years now, and there has been a
resounding silence. Doesn't this seem like an obvious feature? When
a call comes in, have DATA on that screen instead of just caller ID.
I've heard various hemming and hawing about "Oh, well, XML would be
too slow" or "That would require a new RFC!" and nonsense of that
ilk. Bollocks! They do it on the SCCP phones, and SIP accepts easy
header extensions with no new RFC. This has been bald-faced
intentional feature absence so that the SIP phones didn't steal the
show from the bulky and proprietary Cisco back-end products. If those
SIP phones could do it, Asterisk would eat MORE of Call Manager's
lunch than it already has. Maybe I'm frustrated about something that
has been possible for a long time on those phones - it's been a few
years since I really delved into the manuals on the SPA software
loads. Do you know if it is possible yet to do screen pops on the SIP
images of these phones via an XML URL?

PS: MP3's from the speaker on the phone? Err... why? Cool feature
and everything, but mono audio from a speakerphone is not exactly
"listening pleasure" material.

[asterisk-biz] Friday Dec 26th : VUC about Skype for Asterisk

Hi,

I hope everyone will have a joyous holiday time. If you happen to find
yourself at loose ends on Friday after the eat and drink fest that
many of us will be privileged to enjoy Thursday, come and talk with us
about Skype for Asterisk. Steve Sokol, who's in charge of the beta for
this module at Digium, has courageously agreed to give us a report on
how it's coming along.

Spread this URL around on your social network : http://tr.im/voip and
remember all the information about the VUC is at
http://www.VoipUsersConference.org witjh IRC back chat at
#voip-users-conference on Freenode.net.

I've been a part of the asterisk community for several years and I
want to reiterate how much this means to me each passing year. I've
had a chance to meet many of you in person, especially Digium people,
but many others as well. We have a great core group on the VUC, too.
You're a fantastic group and as is sometimes the case with these
things, the whole definitely more than just the sum of the parts.

HAPPY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR to everyone in the Asterisk and VoIP
Users community !

Re: [asterisk-biz] WTS: Digium TE420B Lifetime warranty $1,299

Spammers do what they do because they get a response. I never understood who
would be ordering pills from the Canadian companies offering generic Viagra
but there seems to be a large market because the spammers keep sending the
emails which means people are still clicking. If no one clicked on those
emails they would go away. I think we should treat these emails like a bad
torrent. If no one responds to them hopefully they will just die away.

Re: [asterisk-biz] WTS: Digium TE420B Lifetime warranty $1,299

I actually meant to say post bi-weekly to the list, but more than that
is pushing it.

Now if you have a link in your signature that is not obnoxious and
reply to relevant posts with relevant information, than that is cool
in my book too.

Rehan used to have an obnoxious signature that could probably be found
via google, although he has been very quite for a while now. I think
he "got it"

If you really want some good advice, emulate this company, they do
what you do, but are reputable and professional. They aren't very
flashy but they do deliver on buying and selling and they don't
"Spam".

http://www.thetelecomlink.com

I found them through google and have done some dialogic trades, but I
suppose you could create a similar site and post a link to the list a
couple or a few times a year and opt in direct marketing.

If you are any good, you will get referenced, linked to, high google
ratings, and good business. That wont happen overnight but the way
you are marketing now might get a few sales and a couple hundred
(thousand even, not sure how many on these lists) annoyed and they
will never ever purchase anything from you.

Re: [asterisk-biz] WTS: Digium TE420B Lifetime warranty $1,299

Thanks
Will do so, I was trying to offer a low cost way in the market for developers.

The Lifetime warranty is given to all products we sell, we carry the warranty.

Let me put aside my thought that you are intentionally being obnoxious.

Yes, this would be the proper format, although I don't believe Digium
offers lifetime warranties (unlike Sangoma) and what lifetime are you
referring to, yours or your business's?

In fact I prefer this format over some other posters who link to Ebay
auctions. I don't believe posting a link to an auction is the wrong
format necessarily but I find it annoying.

Yes, but they promote their products once or twice, not 20 times the same
product. Trust me, people have seen your company and name, and they know
what you do and what you sell already.

Ok, enough.  I think you keep your constant unsolicited spam because people have really not complained much about it, therefore, you seem to think it is ok.  It is annoying and unprofessional.  I thought you would get tired already.
