Re: [asterisk-biz] Colocated Asterisk Server

If you want to lower power, build yourself:

-        Tall case (4U min) so you can fit passive cooling towers on CPUS

-        Fewer 6-8cm fans (instead of lots of 4cm fans)

-        High efficiency power supply (90%+)

-        Fewer drives, each higher capacity (mirror instead of Raid 5)

-        Ensure CPU scaling is on

-        Lowest power CPU from intel – with enough power

Etc...

Subject: [asterisk-biz] Colocated Asterisk Server

Hi all,

I'm based in the UK and I currently colocating an asterisk server (HP DL140-G2) with Rapdidswitch.

The problem is that I'm being hammered for extra power. At first they started charging just for 0.5A of power and after about 7 months

they changed there minds and said i was using 0.9A. This is a considerable increase in price, almost double the price since I started out.

No my question is, does anyone know of an off the shelf server that would fall within the power budget of  0.5A at load?

Considering it will be very lightly loaded server, running A2Billing with a handful of people using it and personal use for now.

I will not even mind building a server with a complete kit list from someone who actually has a server on a similar colo package (0.5A).

Also I rather stick to a colo package than go for a dedicated/VPS package for full control of the server.

Thank for your anticipated responses.

Kind Regards,

Reggie
