This was before Uganda allowed VoIP so it sure as heck beat the cost of a landline call (or even a specialized calling card) but you just had to deal with the lag, which, with some practice is not a deal breaker.

and jitter that would be problems. As long as those are under control,
then the call quality should be good. I have regularly made calls from
Amsterdam to servers in the US and the audio was crystal clear and delay
was not observable in a normal conversation.
