personally I dislike reserves for a different reason. Ebay charges
additional fees to the seller to do that, or they used to so as a seller
I dont like it and as a buyer I generally dont like reserves as they are
just a marketing gimick, advertise 0.01 as the price but really the
price is much higher. Its a personal preference, but when I sold stuff
as my main income on ebay I found that others appear to share in that
because I got way more bids by putting a reasonable price as the
starting bid with no reserve, I also only did buy it now (I was moving
hundreds of the same items, mostly mp3 players, so buy it now worked
best for that set up). I also found that even though this means higher
fees for me as a seller, I would make my price all inclusive with no
additional shipping because I was selling to europe and generally
speaking at that time most people would pay more for an all inclusive
item and not leave negative feedback for "excessive shipping costs" even
though my competition on the same items had a total lower price. So
know the culture you are selling to is another tip :)

I provide this info for others that are selling on ebay, not just of my
personal preference, but also of my experience selling there (granted it
was years ago who knows maybe the client base changed its attitude a
bit).
